In Tipsy Tips

Forget about colourful cocktails filled with nobody knows what, dressed to the nines where you are unsure if it is the centre piece, a real fish tank aquarium or your drink. Forget about the latest celebrity-endorsed hard spirits. Expected drink trends for 2022 are healthier drink choices, for both us and the environment, and classic drink choices.

What are the predicted drink trends for 2022?

#1 The Rise of (Celebrity Endorsed) Low-Alcohol Beverages

Nowadays it seems like every celebrity has their own tequila, this is so 2021. Many health-conscious celebs are cashing in on non -alcoholic (NA) drinks or drinks with lower alcohol contents. While most of us are not cutting out alcohol altogether, the trend of a healthier lifestyle has reduced the alcohol intake of many. More people are opting for lighter options such as kombucha, low-alcohol wine or alcohol-free beer.

#2 The Inclination towards CBD-Infused Drinks

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Initially, we saw it rear its head in food, now we can expect to see it in drinks. CBD-infused drinks can be seen at any trendy bar. With its relaxing properties, it can help manage anxiety and stress, and it is also great for pain relief. Don’t worry, it is perfectly legal and isn’t going to make you high.

#3 Papsaks are in!

Yip, you read that correctly, papsaks are a trend in 2022! It turns out that boxed wines are better for the environment as they generate up to half the carbon emissions of their glass counterparts. Boxed wines are also cheaper to store and transport for distributors and restaurants. Boxed wines are super convenient, instead of carting around 4 bottles of wine, we can carry a box that comes with a clever handle. 2022 anticipates seeing more than just wine coming in boxes.

#4 New Ways with Whiskey

Not only is whiskey a healthier drink choice, but it is also changing. Expect to see whiskey in a new light. Distillers are turning to wooden casks of various woods to add another dimension of flavour to their whiskey. Moreover, they are choosing to bottle at cask strength, which means the whiskey is bottled at the strength it leaves the cask. No proofing or adding water to dilute it. What you see is what you get. But they are not stopping there either! No, no. Whiskey is taking it a step further with interesting added flavours like peanut butter. Check out Market Liquors’ for our whisky range and these fantastic whiskey recipes and stay on top of this trend.

#5 The Classic Cocktails Movement

Due to the influence of Covid-19, we all seem to be suffering from a touch of nostalgia, missing the good ol’ times. Our nostalgic feelings have spiked the interest in classic cocktails. While most of us are not adept at preparing fabulous cocktails, we can all make a good Spritz or Cosmopolitan. Why not try to whip up a deliciously trendy Gin & Grapefruit Spritzer?

Here’s to 2022! Bottoms up.
