A Hot Toddy is a drink that mixes a spirit, usually brandy, whiskey or rum, boiling water and honey/sugar. It may also include additional ingredients such as cloves or cinnamon, depending on the recipe followed and taste you want achieved. The name it’s self is said to have originated in Dublin from the brilliant mind of Dr. Robert Bentley Todd, who would regularly prescribe his patients one of the many variations of the drink we know today, his usually including brandy. The drink is usually drunk before going to bed as a final nightcap or in cold weather to warm up, similarly to tea or coffee and many believes that they are a cure for the common cold.
